Google Reader-Plus and opting out

With the most recent news of the demise of Google Reader, I started to go through all of the stories I had "Starred" while using such apps like REEDER, which would allow me to view Google Reader items offline, while flying for example. These are articles that I would want to read in more detail and possibly blog about with my own comments. I had articles going back to 2010 so it was high time to do some house cleaning.

I came across this article from Dave Winer about opting out of Google Plus, which at the time obviously caught my attention since Dave is a very strong advocate of RSS (the RSS godfather so-to-speak) so when it comes to RSS issues and any article about this, especially from Dave himself, I tent to take note.  So today when we see how Google has decided to dismiss the RSS service altogether and implement Google Plus, it does make one take a second thought as to just how much you invest in to it, when you see just how easy it is for a company such as Google to throw it out with the bath water when ever they see fit to do so.  

It is this sort of future-thinking through historical articles that are going to make a difference of how we see services making a difference in our day to day lives and paying attention to such key people like Dave Winer become so obvious!

Dear Producers and Supporters, As you know, I have personally promised you an establishment of new titles for No Agenda Royal Family of Executive Producers. You can expect that any long time listener to the show will eventually receive one of these tributes along with whatever free coded adornment we finally decide upon. Initially all Knights were sent a Knight’s ring which we are still providing free for you until we run out. The show will then begin to ship pins similar to the small pin received by members of the Order of Canada shown below. The No Agenda pin will be designed to be tasteful yet identifiable by other No Agenda producers like you. Note that any meeting in any bar may result in a Challenge coin challenge and free drinks. (See previous discussions). Many of you, the most active producers who contribute consistently, have requestedthat we expand the Knight category of recognition upward with new titles for specific high-level contributions. Only two Barons have been created and that will change in the months ahead as we iron out new proposals. For starters, many of the current Knights will be moved to Baronet and Baron. Our major patron, Sir Steven Pelsmaekers will be elevated to Grand Duke. The question is which of the other classic peerage titles do we want to use from the list below? I have outlined a reasonable proposal later in this newsletter. First, let’s see what is traditional. This list is probably as definitive as you can get for universal peerage as used by the UK, Germany and Russia with variations in Spain and Portugal. These are the areas where this sort of system was perfected. It is still employed in an honorary fashion in many of the still existent Monarchies. This list starts at the bottom and increases in rank and prestige: Knight/Dame, Baronet, Baron, Viscount, Count/Earl, Marquis, (Prince), Duke, Arch Duke, Grand Duke, Monarch, Emperor/Czar The Proposal I am proposing the following peerage for the No Agenda Producers based on number of knighthoods respectively held or donated to others. Knight/Dame – Single Knighthood. Baronet – double Knights. Baron – triple Knights. Viscount – five time knight. Earl – lucky seven time knight. Duke – 10X knight. Arch Duke 20X knight. And finally Grand Duke magic 33X knight. All NA Producers at Baron, Earl and Duke will be assigned (on request) a part of the world to govern. Grand Duke Sir Pelsmaekers has the Dukedom of Belgium/France, for example. Your feedback is appreciated. We will be in the process of attempting, with the help of the producers who do their own bookkeeping to figure out who already has these new titles based on overall contributions to the production of the No Agenda Show. It always amazes me, how this sort of article comes out so many years later, noting the obvious "no WMD's". It shows just how important it was to have such a not-so-with-it president (George W) to help "dumb down" the masses of US people that keenly take every word from every story they hear and see on their local and network news casts as truth! Being Canadian, at least I have the ability to look in from the outside and get some other angles on this sort of thing through Canadian and English news markets but most importantly, through NO AGENDA where even the local American public can quite quickly learn for themselves, just how pathetic the mainstream news really is.  Http://noagendashow.com is the place for REAL NEWS!

CIA And M16 Spy Agencies Knew Iraq Didn't Have WMDs Before 2003 Invasion

Fresh evidence is revealed today about how MI6 and the CIA were told through secret channels by Saddam Hussein's foreign minister and his head of intelligence that Iraq had no active weapons of mass destruction.

Tony Blair told parliament before the war that intelligence showed Iraq's nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons programme was "active", "growing" and "up and running".

A special BBC Panorama programme tonight will reveal how British and US intelligence agencies were informed by top sources months before the invasion that Iraq had no active WMD programme, and that the information was not passed to subsequent inquiries.

It describes how Naji Sabri, Saddam's foreign minister, told the CIA's station chief in Paris at the time, Bill Murray, through an intermediary that Iraq had "virtually nothing" in terms of WMD.

Sabri said in a statement that the Panorama story was "totally fabricated".

However, Panorama confirms that three months before the war an MI6 officer met Iraq's head of intelligence, Tahir Habbush al-Tikriti, who also said that Saddam had no active WMD. The meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, took place days before the British government published its now widely discredited Iraqi weapons dossier in September 2002.

Lord Butler, the former cabinet secretary who led an inquiry into the use of intelligence in the runup to the invasion of Iraq, tells the programme that he was not told about Sabri's comments, and that he should have been.

Butler says of the use of intelligence: "There were ways in which people were misled or misled themselves at all stages."

When it was suggested to him that the body that probably felt most misled of all was the British public, Butler replied: "Yes, I think they're, they're, they got every reason think that."

The programme shows how the then chief of MI6, Sir Richard Dearlove, responded to information from Iraqi sources later acknowledged to be unreliable.

One unidentified MI6 officer has told the Chilcot inquiry that at one stage information was "being torn off the teleprinter and rushed across to Number 10".

Another said it was "wishful thinking… [that] promised the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow".

The programme says that MI6 stood by claims that Iraq was buying uranium from Niger, though these were dismissed by other intelligence agencies, including the French.

It also shows how claims by Iraqis were treated seriously by elements in MI6 and the CIA even after they were exposed as fabricated including claims, notably about alleged mobile biological warfare containers, made by Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, a German source codenamed Curveball. He admitted to the Guardian in 2011 that all the information he gave to the west was fabricated.

Panorama says it asked for an interview with Blair but he said he was "too busy".

Hillary Clinton Officially Announces Her Support For Gay Marriage

Former Secretary of State and potential 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton came out in favor of same-sex marriage on Monday, making the announcement in a video for the Human Rights Campaign. 

Clinton said in the video that as Secretary of State, she repeatedly told countries, "Gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights."

"We must work to make our country freer and fairer," she said in the endorsement. 

Though some have pointed out that Clinton supported New York's 2011 bid to legalize gay marriage, Clinton's new announcement represents a full-throated and unequivocal endorsement of the policy.

Clinton is the latest of a number of politicians to back the policy. She follows Republican Senator Rob Portman, who announced last week that he supports gay marriage after his son told him he was gay.

Dear Producers, First, we want to thank you all for showing support for last Sunday’s Show. Most of you agreed that the shortened “select” on-the-air reading of the donation notes was an improvement. We hope it does two things. That it keeps donations high and makes the notes more interesting. TSA anecdotes are always welcome. We are still leading up to show 500 with dual Executive Producer credits here and here. Please help us. Show Notes Many people are reeling from our analysis of the Bitcoin business. Neither of us thinks it is a good thing to embrace, but our competition (depending on how you define competition) seems to be in the process of promoting it to an extreme. Alex Jones, between commercials for gold and water purification systems, had RT’s Max Keiser on as the guest who would not shut up about Bitcoin. Keiser claimed that this product, created out of thin air, would bring down the Fed and cause a monetary revolution. At one point – clip to be played on Thursday’s show – he claimed that one Bitcoin would soon be worth $100,000, then upped his own prediction by saying one Bitcoin will soon be worth one million dollars! Jones, who like others did little in the way of a background check on this, seemed much more interested in promoting a new movie he is doing about how we are all going to die. No matter, Keiser kept ranting and could only be stopped by another commercial break. A couple of times Jones pointed out that Keiser had patented some old virtual money idea and then accused him of inventing the Bitcoin. “Admit it Max!” he’d scream. The net result of this exercise was that the audience never learned anything except that they should buy something from Jones or buy the Bitcoin because Keiser wanted you to. To contrast this exercise in rambling with your No Agenda Show is stunning. And the irony was that the very next day the Bitcoin was trading down 10 points into the 30’s because there seemed to be some bug with the coinage itself. And they had to regroup. Article on the problem is here. While we do not want to spend any more of your time on the Bitcoin bubble/scam/advertising, whatever you want to call it, you should be concerned about some things said on the Jones show by Keiser and Jones. The most important was the assertion that Libertarians were flocking to this product as if it was some sort of special thing for them because it would supposedly “bring down the Fed.” With the exception of the very few Bitcoin boosters who help produce our show, and will not listen to reason, we can all say that this is bullcrap of the highest order. The Fed is not going to be brought down by Bitcoin. It’s insanity to think it. Buy and sell (if you can sell at all) Bitcoins at your own risk. Consider them a rank speculation with zero intrinsic value. We are both hoping that there will be no reason for any more Bitcoin reports.
