No Agenda Producers Update

Dear Producers and Supporters,

We’ve been getting a lot of feedback on the recent changes in the various free email systems that many of you rely on to get mailings that you requested. Google is the worst offender with its new promotions tab.

If you actually got this newsletter today, please continue to help us out with a $66.66 -- 6th anniversary donation to celebrate six years of uncompromising news analysis. It’s uncompromising because you support it, not because we are taking money from Monsanto and some banks.

One of the most interesting notes we received regarding the email tribulations was this one from Nick D. in London:

I've been a web developer for 15 years.  Hotmail have been taking cash to guarantee your delivery for years. There are various - some complex - settings you can add that may help - such as reverse IP lookup, and SPF records at the DNS. However, the only way to guarantee it - especially with large mailings - is to pay. These 'free' services have to be paid for somehow. This is how. The users have no idea this goes on.

Corruption abounds.

Don’t miss tomorrow’s show as we further deconstruct the Syrian situation after the British have bailed out on helping Obama. And now Obama suddenly wants to "consult" Congress. And I’ve got a new “sweetened” clip you do not want to miss. Plus a report from Adam about his latest dinner with the O-bots. Always a kick.

Thanks for your continued support.
Your Co-host,

John C. Dvorak

ESPN, their commentary over Texas A & M and Rice-Pathetic!

I am truly blown away by the absolute brutal commentary of the ESPN crew at today's Texas A & M/Rice football game.  To start with, Johnny Manziel didn't start the first half yet the entire game ESPN continued to talk about what is to come. Not only that but they have a special half time show all about Manziel. Then when Johnny goes off and gets a penalty towards the end of the game and gets removed from the game my his coach, this ends up being the big news at the end of the game show on ESPN as well.  Here's a rookie that wins the most prestigious award there is in College Football, returning for his 2nd year with the media never letting up the constant smothering of this guy even when he isn't playing. I might add that A & M was already leading the game BEFORE Manziel started the 3rd quarter and in order to win the game you need a TEAM so lets remember that.  So when Johnny gets the penalty and the coach makes him sit out the rest of the game and then ESPN spends the first part of the end of the game show discussing it.. all I can say is "come on man!"

Yes, Johnny needs to use his head and think about the repercussions for the rest of the team and that will come in time, but it certainly doesn't help when he is the one and ONLY thing the ESPN crew decide to talk about and show (at the end of every play they were taking a shot of Johnny on the sidelines during the first half) nothing but Johnny Manziel.  It is truly too bad this Sports Network production has to be so one-sided and has lost all focus of what their job is.. to provide a un-biassed production of the football game.

The Life And Awesomeness Of Bill Gates

Well yeah, after grounding Microsoft, if not almost burying it. Someone needs to dig it out from the current hole it is in. Much like when Jobs returned to save Apple, it makes sense that Gates should come back to save Microsoft. The difference being Gates never totally left MIcrosoft and still had a pretty big say in what was going on. It should be an interesting year ahead!

Good deal: Microsoft’s Surface price cuts are permanent

I really don't see what is such a good deal about an operating system with hardware that is essentially extinct the moment you buy it!  With Microsoft rushing out RT because the Surface PRO was not ready for release, knowing they had to get something out in order to (try) and compete with the other tablets already out there.  Now that Surface Pro is out, which is Windows 8, it means that any further development is certainly not going to go towards the RT platform. So with Microsoft permanently lowering the price on these units, may help but only for those people completely oblivious to the tech world.  It is very sad that Microsoft would stoop so low!

This video is a great idea, great concept however by speeding it up you really don't get to see the changes that have taken place, especially since the track doesn't change nor do things within about 200 feet on either side of the track. Newsletter
Producers,

Our troubles with the newsletter deliveries continue and John will discuss some of his findings in the Saturday newsletter which you might find in your spam box. In the meantime, please keep the show going by adding your contribution of any amount you can afford. Please click here.

Tomorrow we explore the real possibility that the USA may get involved in Syria despite Russian warnings not to. Something is very fishy about all this as we will discuss. Other news outlets will be preoccupied with Miley Cyrus.

The Syrian situation combined with an heir apparent to the chairmanship to the Federal Reserve board might force an economic collapse in 2013, October to be exact. This possibility will be explained and deconstructed on Thursday.

Did you know the newsletter has an RSS feed? It does and it is here:

Your No Agenda show is worth mentioning. When you post on a forum or discussion group, please add some mention of No Agenda with a link to noagendashow.com. Promotion is a good thing.

Why CNN gave Miley Cyrus top spot over Syria

You already know this if you listen to the No Agenda Show!  CNN's ratings have dropped so much with viewership tanking that they will do whatever it takes to re-claim them, including making a 24 Hour News Channel in to an Entertainment Channel for the teens.   Adam Curry knows first hand from working at MTV which was THE 24 Hour Music Video channel in its hay day.  Today you will find it difficult to find a music video playing at all on the same channel.

RSS Readers going Pro

With the most recent release of the PRO version of Feedly, the news reader that quickly became the leader for aggregating the RSS feeds once Google Reader shut down, I truly do want to go pro but find myself questioning the need for this.   I must admit I was seconds from signing up for the lifetime plan when it was announced for $99 but figured I would sleep on it.. that ended up with me not getting it at all due to it being sold out.  Now, with the $5/month or $45/year plan available I am teatering on whether or not I really need this.  That is, until I went to do a search within my feeds and get pushed to 'go pro now' page. It appears they have teased us with all these wonderful features only to take some away for those Pro users. I guess it makes sense because really, what else is the need to go pro?  Sure you can have one click to Evernote but you can still do it in two clicks if by no other way then utilizing your email address that comes with every evernote account and simply mailing the story to yourself there.
Then I think about the fact that, 'what's $5/month or even less then that when you go $45/year it's only $3.75 per month, when I have spent $2, $3 and even $5.99 on various news reader apps for my iphone/ipad over the years (REEDER WAS GREAT). I guess for me, I'm wishing they would bring back the $99 lifetime deal because then I know I wouldn't hesitate. I think for me, maybe its the recurring fees that I just can't get in to when it comes to internet services like reading my news.

No Agenda Producers Update

Dear Producers and Supporters,
RE: The ongoing newsletter delivery crises.

It is crucial that you and everyone else on the mailing list  actually have the newsletter show up in the your inbox.

If you do not want the newsletter you can easily cancel it. If you do not want to open the newsletter you can discard it yourself. But this decision should be yours, not Google deciding for you. That is what is happening.

One of our producers says he has never been able to get the newsletter AT ALL from Microsoft’s outlook.com. Since I do not test this particular service (I will now) I cannot confirm difficulties there. But none of it surprises me.

One reader suggests doing a bulk search in the promotions tab for the newsletter then sliding them all into the INBOX at once and that is supposed to trigger Google to change its filing habits. Maybe. Maybe not.

Above all, if your email system has a white-listing feature, make sure you white list thedvorak.org domain. In the meantime I cannot even tell how many people are reading this note. We figure these services are losing half of our MailChimp output. It’s like the local mailman from hell who just throws the mail away instead of delivering it.

I’m of the personal belief that we will suffer low donations for the next few months and Google, Yahoo and Microsoft will tweak their systems and things will get better.

Of course, they will really do better if these same companies decide to go into the mailing business themselves, right? This low-level form of corruption works that way. “Yewz guyz needs to take out some insurance, yeah? Uderwise some bad tings might happen.”

One of these days someone is going to work out a racketeering case against some of these folks.

In the meantime, please help us with a random contribution by clicking here. Or you can get on our $66.66 6th Anniversary bandwagon by clicking here.
Whatever you do, help us with this email dilemma in any way you can.

Thanks,
Your co-host,

John C.Dvorak

Signs Of The Times: Ohio School Hosts 'Counter-Terrorism' Bus Hijacking Drill

Nothing makes schools safer than preparing for eventualities that will likely never happen. Fire drills may seem mostly useless, but fires are still common enough that a little precaution is a good idea, especially since schoolchildren tend to rank nears cats on the Herdibility Index.

But a simple fire drill can't teach today's kids about the number one threat to buses and bus safety -- a hijacking by some sort of terrorist.

Leonore Skenazy at Free Range Kids finds the whole thing (correctly) baffling.
Yes, it's a terrorist drill on a school bus.

I truly could not understand from this report (or Googling) if the students knew the attack was fake or not. They probably did, or just imagine the lawsuits. Nonetheless, it is nothing less than bizarre that while they were being "hijacked," school administrators and sundry responsible adults sat in folding chairs in a parking lot across town watching a big-screen live feed of the event.

And then, as the audience watched, into that lot drove — the bus! A waiting SWAT team took over, puncturing the bus tire and "liberating" the hostages.
Compare that writeup with 13abc.com's, which makes it sound like those excluded from the "counter-terrorism" drill are some of the unluckiest students alive.
ROSSFORD, Ohio - A training exercise this Rossford Wednesday morning left students literally hanging on to the edge of their seats.

In the scenario: A school bus is en route to an event when suddenly it's hijacked! A camera inside the bus captured the whole thing while an audience of school teachers, administrators and transportation directors watched it all unfold on a live feed.

The hijacker even tied some of the students up and told them to keep their heads down. The bus eventually ended up at Owens Center for Emergency Preparedness. That's where first responders and SWAT teams were ready to move in.
This is most notable for its injudicious (and apparently sincere) use of an exclamation point, which makes it sound more like a sudden but somewhat expected turn of events in a lousy YA novel rather than a bit of perverse showmanship in servitude to the War on Terror. Skenazy points out that the DHS considers bus drivers to be point men in our nation's anti-terrorist efforts, as buses are theoretically "soft targets" for attention-seeking hijackers.

Now, the kids who participated were informed that something out of the ordinary would be happening during this bus trip to a parking lot according to Chief of Police Glenn Goss:
Thank you for your concern for the students and children within our school district and community. I too would be concerned for any child who unwittingly was held hostage, tied up and threatened at gunpoint. The problem is: none of this happened.

This was a well planned training exercise in which all participants (children and bus driver included) knew well in advance that they were participating in a training exercise to prepare for such an event to take place – which is very possible in our world today.

Each student and participant signed waivers that acknowledged their participation in this training.
There it is again -- the baseless claim that a bus hijacking is "very possible in our world today." And the addition of "our world today" makes it clear that Goss has bought everything the DHS is selling -- that we are in infinitely more danger today than we were pre-9/11. The more "dangerous" our world is, the more "necessary" these training exercises are, and the more "necessary" they are, the less likely anyone is to roll back policies or cut off funding.

And, make no mistake, this drill had everything to do with the War on Terror.
The Rossford Police Department is very proud to be part of a community that prepares for such incidents, even though we hope we never encounter them. Our proactive approach to counter-terrorism, active killers and other such incidents hopefully will save lives in the future…especially the lives of our children.
Thank god for the "proactive approach." It allows agencies like this to advance the notion that kids should live in fear and trust their government. And it's nice to know that "active killers" are being prepared for. I would hate to see federal dollars being thrown at "inactive killers," the kind that can't be bothered to load their weapons, much less get off the couch. Altogether, the whole thing looks like nothing more than an excuse to break out the SWAT gear and let the locals know where all those tax dollars went. It does absolutely nothing to make anyone safer.

Dear Producers,

The Thursday Show
Adam will finally reveal his Fukushima investigation on Thursday as we failed to go anywhere near it on Sunday because of the crazy discussion of the Bertha Foundation. And we have news on that too!

There is plenty to discuss on Thursday including the new Obama dog with a major crackpot theory as to why did the Obama’s suddenly get a new dog. You No Agenda regulars might be able to predict what we are going to say.

While we look at the continued pipeline wars in the Middle East you can be sure there will be very little coverage of the new baby King George. We also do not care about the possibility that Apple will release a gold iPhone. Who cares?

But there is still a bunch of weirdness going on with the Internet as Amazon sites went down for 25 minutes without a known attack or anything else. We expect to see more and more of this and have it eventually blamed on some foreign entity so the USA can spend billions on Cyberwarfare.

We hope that you will continue supporting us and your No Agenda show with generous contributions of any amount by clicking here.

Thanks.

Dear Producers,

Time flies and we are winding up summer. You can make things brighter by becoming an executive producer or associate executive producer by contributing $200 or moreby clicking here.

Something funny happened on the Sunday Show. Just as Adam said that “right now would be the exact moment for our famous 6-week terrorist incident cycle”, supposedly a can or box or something which had supposed VX GAS was found in a postal facility at the JFK airport.  And anyone who deals with this deadly nerve gas knows you always set the canister to “leaking” so you can kill yourself before you ship it to who knows where.

When we first heard this we figured it was a broken perfume bottle or something and, in fact, it was nail polish. Disaster averted with plenty of time left in the week for a real would-be disaster.

This still points to a greater likelihood that there will be closer scrutiny of the US Postal system with the long term goal of making it less secure from the NSA and other government snoops who are prevented from opening your mail by law.

We’ve identified the war on the post office years ago and it’s going into full force in the years ahead as the surveillance state is completed and we’ll all be living in a virtual prison state.

Do you recall Ron Paul suggesting that the walls to keep out the Mexicans might be walls to keep Americans trapped? This was during one of the debates and he was roundly criticized for the comment. Who is laughing now?

You’ll get a great show on Thursday when weirdness in Africa is discussed along with some new deconstructions. We’ll also discuss the latest No Agenda promotion, the sixth anniversary of the show in October.

 Your hosts,
John C. Dvorak & Adam Curry
