First iPad Mini vs. Retina: No contest - CNET Mobile

For me, it is reviews like this, that are quite obvious the reviewer is a complete apple fan boy. Either that or this was a post directly from an Apple stooge!
I own the ipad 1,2 and 3 as well as the original ipad mini (I guess that is the ipad 4?) and knowing that Apple has decided to keep around the ipad 2, not only that but continue to promote it with the new ipad air (ie:no more ipad 3) should make it quite obvious that don't have a problem with non retina display devices in the market place. Personally on more than one occasion I have picked up my ipad 2 unsure of which device I had even though comparing a web page side by side you will notice the retina display, it isn't THAT obvious.  And to think the ipad mini (original) has speeds better than both ipad 2 and 3,this proves my point that all this is, is a push for ipad mini retina push.

It's a good thing people that read this sort of noise do read from more than one place to get real information!

No Agenda Newsletter

 No Agenda
Newsletter
Dear Producers,

As you know your No Agenda Show continues to be produced during the USA Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. These constitute two shows over the number one shopping holiday in the USA. Donations and support for the show plummets during this horrid weekend and we want to remind you that anything you contribute will help the show immensely. Click here and contribute anything.

And note! The Thursday Thanksgiving Show is Show number five-sixty-nine! 5-69.Think of the possibilities.

The show continues its quest to dig deeper into the Common Core screwball slave training curriculum being foisted on the public in the USA and apparently around the world. Each week your No Agenda Show uncovers creepier and creepier connections between the promoters of this agenda and various NGO’s and commercial interests. Thursday’s show will be no exception.

The Show has uncovered more unique and unreported information for you for theThursday show. Make sure you download and listen to Show 568 where Adam reveals some astonishing clips about the future of the Common Core program.

Good reading this week includes an essay about one of the key Common Core History texts here.  And here’s a reminder to read the Pierre Omidyar piece here

And, as usual, John will reprise his real story of Thanksgiving for you. Hint: the picture above is bullcrap. Note the Springer Spaniel. The breed did not even exist until the mid 1800's.

Your co-hosts,
John C. Dvorak & Adam Curry

How a Professional Pilot Could Possibly Land a Giant Plane at the Wrong Airport

I would love to hear Adam's opinion on this on the next No Agenda Show (http://noagendashow.com)

How a Professional Pilot Could Possibly Land a Giant Plane at the Wrong Airport
http://feedly.com/k/1eyrbsd

The story of two pilots landing a Boeing 747 at the wrong airport drew a lot of rolled eyes, more than a little laughter and serious questions about how on earth two experienced pilots could so make so colossal an error. It's easier than you might think.

No Agenda Producers Update

Producers,

This week we just have a reminder that both myself and Adam will be back from our short trips with some insights we’d normally not get. This means: “what are people out there actually thinking.”
Check the stream live at the normal time or make sure to download the podcast.

Also, you should visit the support page and help us produce the show with a generous donation. Things have been seriously lagging. Help us.

Your co-host,

This Change To Airplane Seats Would Make Every Cross-Country Flight So Much Better

With the age of technology as we now currently have it, it really amazes me how the American Techies are now just getting to enjoy certain airline comforts as it seems Air Canada has had for so many years. I have enjoyed my flights to and from Canada to the USA on Air Canada with personal tv's and power for many years, not just a few. So why is it only now that it seems the Americans are only now getting to enjoy this on more airlines? Probably because the money was being spent on bogus security measures that have only made flying (in the USA) that much more unpleasant!

NASA's Next Frontier: Growing Plants On the Moon

They will first start with Marijuana because, well, it's a weed and it will grow anywhere. But the real mission is for the growth of Poppies because that is where the real money is, and they can then safely send the troops home from Afganastan!

NASA's Next Frontier: Growing Plants On the Moon
An anonymous reader writes in with news about a NASA project that aims to grow plants on the moon in specially made containers. "In 2015, NASA will attempt to make history by growing plants on the Moon. If they are successful, it will be the first time humans have ever brought life to another planetary body. The Lunar Plant Growth Habitat team, a group of NASA scientists, contractors, students and volunteers, is finally bringing to life an idea that has been discussed and debated for decades. They will try to grow arabidopsis, basil, sunflowers, and turnips in coffee-can-sized aluminum cylinders that will serve as plant habitats. But these are no ordinary containers – they're packed to the brim with cameras, sensors, and electronics that will allow the team to receive image broadcasts of the plants as they grow. These habitats will have to be able to successfully regulate their own temperature, water intake, and power supply in order to brave the harsh lunar climate."

Bitcoin businesses getting banned from banks in the US?

Of course this makes complete sense when we all know it is the banks the truly run the world. Unless bitcoin is secretly run by them, which apparently it is not, this is only going to get worse as the bitcoin value continues to rise!

Sales figures show deep problems for Jobs' Mob

I personally saw evidence of this well over a year ago, probably just post Job's death, as Apple's 'bleeding edge' tech was no more. Being an owner of the iphone 3G, Ipod Touch (same generation as 3g Iphone), Ipad gen 1, 2 and 3 as well as Ipad mini, it became quite apparent that Samsung was going places. I wanted a larger phone and the iphone 4 wasn't going to do it so I moved to the Samsung Note (1 and now version 2) only  to see each version increase in speed and tech enhancements. Something that wasn't being done in any of the latest Apple products. Now with the latest rendition of the ipad mini which (finally) has retina display, that is all that it has.. nothing else that make me even care to look at a new ipad. I have purchased a Nexus 7 (1st gen) and was blown away by the speed and low price and have since purchased the 2013 Nexus 7 which completely cleans the ipad mini's clock in every way.

No Agenda Saturday Memo

Dear Producers,

The next show has Adam in Europe and John in California where you’ll get another good International report along with the attached memo from out International economic hitman in Sudan. You can read this for yourself and extrapolate what’s coming. Another mess that the USA will have to be involved with.

That seems to be a theme with your No Agenda Show and as the Show enters its seventh year all you are asked is for continued support by visiting the support page here or contributingany amount here. A remember everything over $200 gets you a bona-fide producer credit.

Your co-host,

John C. Dvorak
PS The Sack of Sevens is off to a good start. Click here.

The report follows:

Exclusive report to No Agenda Producers and Newsletter Subscribers.

Dispatches from Juba, South Sudan the youngest country in the world.

I wish I could say I was excited to be going to South Sudan but I wasn¹t, even if it meant I could increment my country counter from 114 to 115. Traveling alone just holds no appeal to me any longer. People in my world, that of International Development, were all telling me I would really like it there. After all, it was like the Wild West of development projects. This country has so little going for it that it is a dream come true for people, like myself, seeking to make a difference. Throw a stone anywhere and you will find a problem needing to be fixed.

My orientation to Juba did not take long since it is closer to being a town than a city, let alone the capital of the newest country in the World. With just about 350,000 people living mostly in rough built corrugated or cinder block housing, Juba sits at the terminus of the navigable Nile which provides a huge source of drinkable water to the area.

Juba is always HOT sitting just 4 degrees north of the Equator. My Arrival corresponds with the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the hottest part of the year. The heat is relentlessly hot. People live indoors where the air conditioners are continuously trying to fight back the ever encroaching heat. Step outside and it is an instant dry heat that hits you in the face. Today it was only 95 degrees, next month it will average over 100 degrees and reach 110 quite often.

From what I saw at the airport, and what people told me, the International Development community was young, and globally dispersed.

The American and Europeans seem to be all under the age of 30 with the exception of the senior staff who run the USAID and EU funded activities meant to support the survival of this country which was carved out after years of war. This information, borrowed from Wikipedia, explains the humanitarian rationale for being here:

South Sudan is acknowledged to have some of the worst health indicators in the world. The under-five infant mortality rate is 135.3 per 1,000, whilst maternal mortality is the highest in the world at 2,053.9 per 100,000 live births. In 2004, there were only three surgeons serving southern Sudan, with three proper hospitals, and in some areas there was just one doctor for every 500,000 people.

The Chinese are here as well, playing their role in taking over Africa one country at a time. I could go on for paragraphs about the Chinese presence in Africa, but that is a different conversation.

After working for half a day, I went to a late lunch at one of the Local haunts and it was buzzing with music, TV¹s and ex-pats everywhere. The restaurant is said to be owned by someone from Sudan, therefore, no alcohol is served. Sitting in this restaurant you could easily forget that you are in South Sudan and, instead, be in Nairobi or even Kampala. I could immediately see that watering-holes like this support the development community who are the only ones with enough money to afford to eat there. Everything is imported and therefore very expensive. It is the development community which is fueling the growth of Juba while at the same time providing the expertise to the South Sudanese to raise their country out of extreme poverty to plain old poverty and hopefully few unintended deaths at birth.

My week in Kenya was marked by a lot of work, both Kenyan and East Coast time zones leading to a distinct lack of sleep. I do not often get to the point of complete exhaustion, but last night I fell asleep at 630 PM until I was awoken by what I thought was a freight train running through my room.

The prefab housing units all have metallic roofs and I quickly realized that the loud sound was rain. I got out of bed and went outside to see a deluge of rain. It was a hurricane without the winds. It felt like it rained 6 inches in a span of 30 minutes. I have never heard it rain harder.

So that is how my first 24 hours in South Sudan played out. By the way, I am receiving hazard pay for being here. It is considered an active war zone.

Again taking liberally from Wikipedia I will close with this: Campaigns of atrocities against civilians have been attributed to the SPLA (Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army). In the SPLA/M's attempt to disarm rebellions among the Shilluk and Murle, they burned scores of villages, raped hundreds of women and girls and killed an untold number of civilians. Civilians alleging torture claim fingernails being torn out, burning plastic bags dripped on children to make their parents hand over weapons and villagers burned alive in their huts if rebels were suspected of spending the night there.

In May 2011, the SPLA allegedly set fire to over 7,000 homes in Unity States. The UN reports many of these violations and the frustrated director of one Juba-based international aid agency calls them "human rights abuses off the Richter scale". In 2010, the CIA issued a warning that "over the next five years,...a new mass killing or genocide is most likely to occur in southern Sudan." The Nuer White Army has stated it wished to "wipe out the entire Murle tribe on the face of the earth as the only solution to guarantee long-term security of Nuer¹s cattle"[28] and activists, including Minority Rights Group International, warn of genocide in the current Jonglei conflict.

More to come.

Google Play Music Lands on iOS with Cloud Backup and Streaming Options

This, and the fact that the gmail IOS app and other Google apps for IOS have recently been updated is now making it more worthwhile to go for Apple products once again.  I personally have many IOS devices but in the past year or so, have seriously shifted to Android devices due to the ease of doing things Google related, not to mention the price of Android tablets and devices is substantially less than Apple products.

Transforming Airline Seats Adjust Width for Each Passenger

In theory this sounds great, but if you have ever been on a flight and witnessed just how long it takes people to get themselves adjusted and in to their seat while a lineup of people behind them wait.. can you imagine how it would be if the flight attendants had to first adjust the seat for those 'wider passengers' based on their boarding pass?!

I think once the word is out that the banks are actually behind the operation of bitcoin it may have some investors think twice, otherwise why not, even though it will never be as good as gold, it could be worth more (some day!)

Dear Producers,

If you want to try and understand the mediocrity of analysis in both the mainstream media and the alternative media too, you should read the article on the PaidContent blog on how writing for free is "not slavery."

The author, associated with the blog, attacks an op-ed piece in the New York Times where the writer there is complaining that today so many people are writing for free that almost nobody can get paid any amount of money any more. All you really have to do to analyze this new scene and the whether it is true or not is to look at the results.

Coverage at all levels of information exchange is dreadful. The pressure from the free content folks is overwhelming everything including the mainstream media which no longer maintains foreign bureaus, has few stringers, and cannot afford to finance deep investigative reporting.

This is so apparent because there is obvious logical inconsistency and shallownessapparent in most major stories today. You all recognize this problem. Your No Agenda Show cuts through this fog. And its done for your benefit because you support the showwith direct and important contributions based on the value-for-value model. The show works for you, not the other way around. as is the case with the corrupting advertising-based media where you are the product.

You are a direct participant in a media revolution. In the process you receive over 20 hours of news coverage and analysis that no other outlet can manage. Many are too busy worrying about what the advertiser thinks.

Please think of your No Agenda Show the next time you do anything to entertain yourself. Is the show worth more than an Audible book? Is it worth more than spending all that money to watch The Lone Ranger movie? Look at your cable bill and calculate what it costs you in a year.

This week, as the show goes into its seventh year, we are offering the new bag of lucky sevens contribution level. Please click here to continue to support your No Agenda Show today.

No Agenda Producers Update

Producers,

Reminder. Make sure to tune-in or download tomorrow’s show. As usual, we will have exclusive analysis that makes your life make more sense and which gives you the upper hand in the kind of dumb political arguments you find every day.

And now is the time for you to bring up donation levels. The show likes to brag about your support, but since the anniversary show all donations are down. And with the normal failure of PayPal to maintain subscriptions properly we lose more subscribers than we gain.

For this newsletter, you are encouraged to add the $11.11 (the most popular monthly subscription) or the $33.33 second most popular monthly subscription. You should be a subscriber if you are not already.

And become an executive producer by helping the show with any donation over $200 with anopen-ended one-time contribution.

You will feel better than ever if you become a donor. Please do it today.

You co-host,

John C. Dvorak
