Tomorrow’s Show This week, President Trump met in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the Ukraine war and economic opportunities. The lengthy 3 hour meeting ended with no progress towards a cease fire but a more well-defined demand from the Russians. The demands are not new or a surprise. Putin wants to free the parts of Ukraine that are mostly Russian people who speak Russian and who were under constant attack by Ukrainian nationalists who hate Russians and are still irked by the Stalinist starvation policy stemming back to 1932-1933 which is largely responsible for the Ukrainians taking sides with Hitler. The starvation policy was intended to thwart Ukrainian nationalism which was dully achieved only by the fall of the Soviet Union. None of this is ever discussed. Oh and Putin does not want Ukraine to be part of NATO, ever. He sees the whole NATO idea a dick move by the West. The meeting in Alaska went as well as could be expected. In fact, and also never discussed, is the fact that Russians and Americans get along famously. Most major cities in the USA have thriving Russian enclaves. The sociology of this is never fully explored as it should be by academia. So after the meeting the two leaders took the stage to make a comment. Putin began with what could only be described as a Trump-like ramble/weave that went too long. Trump at the other podium began to fidget and could have easily passed out. Putin praised the Russian-American historical relationships. It goes back to Alaska itself, the purchase from Russia orchestrated by the Abe Lincoln administration. After Putin was done it was a surprise that Trump did not use the comedian bromide saying, “Thank you Vlad, for the comments, I enjoyed every hour of it.” But instead he ad-libbed a quick comment and closed the session saying he’d be talking with the EU leaders and Zelenskyy. And that was that. If this does not drag on (to the benefit of the war machine) it will come to a surprise ending. In other news Taylor Swift released another album and did a podcast. |
