Tomorrow's Show The era of the celebrity Senator died with Lindsey Graham. There are a few remnants highlighted by Bernie Sanders, but for the most part almost all the US Senators today are too old to be popular celebrities. All that is left are the B-list wannabees such as a Tom Cotton who will invariably replace Graham as the leading Republican war hawk.
The celebrities in Congress are all in the House or in Governorships. Even Mayors are higher profile than the average US Senator.
Ro Khanna and Ocasio-Cortez come to mind in the House. Both are more likely to become a nominee for President than anyone (from either party) who is a current US Senator.
The Senate used to be a primary breeding ground for Presidential candidates. Ones that come to mind include JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Obama, Biden and more. In much of history, though, it has been state governors who seem to get the job. Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush are recent examples. In fact, there were 17 Senators who became President, 17 Governors who became President (with four of them who were both). But 19 ex-Congressmen surprisingly dominate the list in one way or another. So, let’s keep an eye on them.
Meanwhile we have the mystery of Mitch McConnell, who is miraculously alive and resting in an unknown nursing home looking 20 years younger. Compare the before and after photos below (the new photo shows him with his wife). People are claiming this was a photoshop job and other say it might be one of those high-tech CIA masks on who knows who.
Of course, the show cannot get to the bottom of it, but it is something to consider. |
