I'm sorry, but "innovative" and "inexpensive"? Are you kidding me? A wooden block which would hold up the ipad next to your laptop is all you would need here. There is no purpose in having the ipad raised to the top portion of the laptop's display, not to mention the fact that it would probably make more sense putting any money you were to place on buying such contraption on a very inexpensive 19" LCD external monitor which can be had for about $85!
