Shooter Redux As you might have expected the Lewiston Shooter, Robert Card, was found dead in the woods, from apparent suicide, once again denying the public and the media a prolonged analysis of who he was and why he did it. If there was even a suicide note, which seems to always be an element in the story, we will probably never get to see it. You can expect a lot of hand-wringing over this event, calls for gun control and red flag laws will permeate the media, the subject of gun confiscation and commentary that “this doesn't happen in Australia” will emerge, as usual. One thing for sure, any details as to what meds this guy was put on by the medical establishment will never be discussed in any detail, if at all. And then there is the “mystery note” as it is described by news report. Here's is the clip from the Independent: “The details in the mystery note revealed... “Maine’s Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck confirmed in a press conference on Friday that a note had been recovered in the wake of Wednesday’s attacks. However, he refused to reveal the contents of the note, hinting that it may point to a possible motive for the killings. “Police sources had previously told ABC News that a “suicide note” addressed to his son had been found inside Mr Card’s home during a search.” If you have not noticed, these “suicide notes” have lately been censored by public authorities who find them. In the above case the notion that it might lead to a motive and they have to censor it is ludicrous. There will be no court case where a motive is at issue. So what difference does it make, the guy is dead. Now if the note is a public screed directed at a specific person who does not need the aggravation of being libeled by a dead man then OK, keep the note to yourself, but there is no such indication. These never-ending dramas regarding suicide notes is annoying. |
