Dear Producer, Thanksgiving in the USA is next Thursday. That mean between now and then and for another week after that the mainstream broadcast media (radio, TV, podcasts) will be “taking time off” to “celebrate the holiday” and “be with family.” You can be with your family and celebrate and work too. This is about finding a reason not to work during a period of war and pestilence (flu, RSV, Covid variant). Your No Agenda Show makes a point to work on holidays. You can use other times to be with your family or take time off. And while yes, a third of the audience is traveling, the majority is still there hungry for news and analysis. This is never fully appreciated and it is hoped that those of you who see this extra effort will contribute support for the show. Tomorrow's Show That idiotic “Ben Laden letter” is still getting a lot of attention. On the last show Adam easily showed the “scripted” roll-out, which became obvious on further reflection. Overlooked in all this are other Bin Laden papers including the ones captured with him in Pakistan. Here's a story about it and it oddly humorous in that the Intel agencies claim that Bin Laden thought that bringing down the towers would ignite the US Public into protesting US involvement in the Middle East and elsewhere. This sort of miscalculation of the attitudes and intents of the US Public is normal. Dissociated individuals and groups do it constantly. Congressmen such as Adam Schiff do it. But the fact that people can be isolated in a bubble and be made to believe utter nonsense (eg. Donald Trump means the end of Democracy) is a phenomenon that needs to be understood better. Miss Universe It looks as if the newest owner of the Miss Universe pageant, a Thailand-based operation, is filing for bankruptcy under odd circumstances. But the show must go on, at least one more time. This time, Moms, plus-sizers, older women, and trans-gendered men will compete. This seems to me to be a potential TV bonanza insofar as the viewing audience is concerned, especially if they can make a must-watch spectacle of it. Trump was part owner of this event until 2015 when he started his political career. He knew marketing. These folks do not and they are very defensive, it seems, regarding the liberalization of the contestants. There appears to be no sense of humor regarding any of it.
