Although this is pretty much the same as Facebook auto opting you in on certain security issues, it only means turning the feature off all together. Then, if/when you actually need to use it, you will get notice that it is currently disabled and can then it on. It's a pain, yes, but it beats the alternative of take over the camera and physically unplugging the sound devices.
