Editorial: Baggage handlers deserve a break

After reading the Editorial (below) I felt obligated to state the obvious.. 1: it is a union so of course they are going to go to bat for these guys!  2: If they didn't charge for luggage in the first place then this 'over cramming' of carry on baggage wouldn't be such a concern.  The fact that we see luggage being dropped is one thing but the fact that you don't really see the padding is another. True it would be better if they used the slide system that many airports have in place where the guy at the bottom simply stops it after it reaches the bottom of the slide however what shouldn't be overlooked here is the fact that this is not a case of people over crowding the bins on the cabin, it is a fact that they expect you to place the carry on at the end of the jetway instead of having a cart already in place at the beginning of the jetway as seen in such places as Salt Lake and Chicago for example. This cart is then wheeled directly to the plane and the so-called 'lazy' baggage handler doesn't even have to pick it up! So no, these baggage handlers shouldn't be given a break. If they find it too difficult to do their job then get rid of them and give the job to someone that actually wants it!
