No Agenda Show 1580

Do-it-Yourself Boat Bomb
Dear Producer,
This week marked the 35th anniversary of co-host John and his wife Mimi (known for the meetup site and the Egg book). Few people can manage this feat and the show celebrates it with the annual 8-8-88 donation. Click here. Yes, they were married on 8-8-88.

Also the show odometer is up to show 1580 and the Executive Producership for tomorrow's show beckons. It's a credit you can keep forever and will always reflect positively on your career. Click here for that.

If you have your own idea about contributing support for the show, then use the random donation and contribute whatever you want. Click here.

Ukrainian War Technology Update

This war, of sorts, between Russia and Ukraine is providing a fertile testing ground for new ideas and new forms of warfare. The most interesting and unexpected development is the explosive Ukrainian drone boats that have been used to severely damage the bridge to Crimea, blast a merchant ship and cripple a Russian cruiser.

This appears, on the surface, to be a home-grown technology developed by the Ukrainians. There is a tendency to forget that the Ukrainians have a basis for creative design. The pinnacle of this is centered at the Tupolev Aircraft Company, maker of some of the largest aircraft to ever have flown.

The key to understanding the rationale behind the boat drone bomb is its price estimated at $250,000 each. While this seems expensive compare to the cost of one lone Mark 48 American-made torpedo that comes in at over $5 million each. War is expensive.

Mark 48 Torpedo, not cheap.

The budget-minded hawks out there looking to save money can now consider the following idea (unclassified). They should work even better than the $250,000 boat drone bomb.

You can buy a brand new 16-foot Crestliner 1600 equipped with a 50HP Mercury outboard motor for $22,500 or so. An auto-pilot system with radio controlled remote control costs less than $5000. There may be some do-able mods needed for long-range radio control.

You load it with a bomb and put two dummies in the seats and you are probably all-in for less than $35,000. Send a bunch of these after the Russian ships and you create havoc for a lot less than $250,000, let alone $5 million.

Imagine two inflatable dummies in the seats.

But that's not quite the same as supporting a blood-sucking arms business, is it?
