Yes, of course the teachers have agreed to go on strike in BC.. why not, when they have done this successfully before! It is pathetic that they act like this. Whatever happened to teachers actually wanting to teach children no matter what the dollar value is? Whatever happened to the Government stating that education was an 'essential job' in the workforce, much like Fire/Ambulance and Police whereas they are not allowed to strike. There used to be a time, years ago, when Unions were needed in some employment situations however this is NOT the case these days, especially when it comes to the teaching of our children. Years ago, when I was in my graduating year of high school, the teachers in BC went on strike for the first time, and were out for about 5 weeks. During that time all of us students continued to go to classes, reading ahead in our textbooks and the classes were managed by "scabs" or 'substitute teachers' and/or principal or vice principals. The bottom line is the students continued their desire to get educated. Once the strike ended we were told that we may have to return for summer classes due to the time we were without teachers. Those of us that were in our graduating year were outraged by the fact they could try to tell us this when we continued to show up each and every day. Fortunately we did graduate at the scheduled time and did not have to proceed to summer classes but it is this sort of b/s that these unions attempt to get away with as they continue to provide false promises to the teachers. It makes me sick!
