Met Gala Freak Show Someone has to comment on the horrid and insulting to the public event held yearly in NYC called the Met Gala. Costing $75,000 to attend (drinks included) you have to be invited or screened to even go to the event. Trump was refused years back. It’s basically a cultural event totally controlled by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. She anoints the invitees and calls for the various themes of the event which the fawning NY media falls all over. Over the years it’s become a clown show, with few, if any, critics, calling it out as such. If anyone thinks the upper crust are not laughing up their sleeve, they are missing the point. The “celebrity” guests, who attend this event, are encouraged to make fools of themselves with outlandish comical outfits to amuse the onlookers. Many arrive in often ghastly and freakish outfits proving that the unwashed masses have no real taste and need to be controlled by this “superior” upper crust. There is your proof. Look! This is like one of those Hollywood story lines were a goofy guy is the selected guest at a Sorority house to be humiliated behind his back. In fact that sort of thing and the Met Gala is a form of overt social cruelty. The American societal elite, especially in Manhattan, needs to feel superior and inherently imbued with culture and taste. They often need to assure themselves of their high place in the pecking order. So they set up the rubes and wannabees in hopes that they make fools of themselves. This year’s theme had to do with black fashion and creativity in hopes of bringing out the ludicrous. The hope was for anything laughably ghetto or tasteless that the in-crowd could mock and knowingly smirk among themselves with a knowing wink and nod. How coy. The NY Post provides a run down of most of the costumes here. |
