Tomorrow's Show Trump has been busy with a real trade deal finally announced with the UK, this was somewhat covered on the last show along with the showtime discussion of the new American-bred Pope from Chicago. To celebrate that event all of today’s memes will be about the Pope. Meanwhile Pakistan and India are on the verge of a nuclear exchange, which would be a disaster although some Geo-politicians like the idea since it would bring nuclear disarmament back into the discussion. Almost nobody sees it as a road to WWIII because both countries are allies with all the other countries. This is not the same with Iran (allied with Russia) and Israel (allied with USA) getting into bombing each other with nukes. Ukraine could also trigger a wider war. The Casey Means Conundrum All sorts of various people are tossing grenades at Casey Means, the Trump choice for Surgeon General who replaced a pro-Vaxxer choice Trump recently made and who decided to quit before confirmation. I can see why people might like to see someone like Peter McCullough or other hotshots in this position, but this has always been a lesser job often peopled by colorful characters who were blowhards like Biden’s fruity Indian Navy Vice Admiral Vivek Murthy. The current acting Surgeon General is another Admiral, Denise Hinton, who nobody ever heard of. By a quick count the last 25 of 27 Surgeon Generals were Navy Admirals. Before that it was about half of them. It’s obvious this is some sort of Navy privilege for no known reason other than tradition. This is the real push back, a cabal stemming in and about the Navy upper echelon, nothing else. Casey Means might not be a practicing doctor and perhaps a woo woo tree talker but the fact that she in not Military and specifically not Navy is the real reason this is happening. Nothing else makes any sense. She simply breaks with tradition and has to go. Of course the MSM fails to mention this and you have ask yourself why you are reading this in a podcast newsletter? Well, I was called out for poor analysis and wanted to correct myself. The Surgeon “Generals” are given a Navy Admiral-ship after they receive the appointment. This stems back to 1871. The following is a better run down. In fact the position is a Navy position, a fact lost on me at the time of the writing.

The Surgeon General of the United States Navy holds the title of Admiral (specifically Rear Admiral or Vice Admiral) because the position is the most senior commissioned officer of the Navy Medical Corps and serves as the principal advisor on medical and health matters to the Secretary of the Navy, Chief of Naval Operations, and Commandant of the Marine Corps. This rank reflects the high level of responsibility and leadership required to manage Navy and Marine Corps healthcare policy, biomedical research, and medical personnel. It seems the term “General” does not refer to military rank.

The title of Surgeon General originated in 1871 when Congress granted Navy medical officers "relative rank" equivalent to line officers, with the Chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery also receiving the title "Surgeon General" and the relative rank of Commodore. Over time, the Surgeon General's rank was elevated to Vice Admiral (three-star) from 1965 until 2019, reflecting the importance of the role. However, recent legislative changes removed the statutory three-star rank, making the current Surgeon General a Rear Admiral (two-star), although there have been ongoing efforts to restore the three-star rank.

The Wiki entry adds this, “The rank of Admiral is conferred to the Surgeon General because the position requires the authority and status commensurate with senior leadership in the Navy, enabling effective oversight of medical operations and policy at the highest levels. Appointment to this rank is made by the President with Senate confirmation, and the Surgeon General serves a four-year term as Chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, the central administrative body for Navy Medicine “

So my current thesis would be that nobody wants Casey Means, a tree hugger, to be an Admiral.

It’s an embarrassment to miss this in haste.
