The third eviction of the season just happened so it is now safe to say we are well in to the season. In fact I would guess next week will be a double eviction. My thoughts so far. I'm not impressed. Initially I was however, recognizing these house guests (HG) were here to play and were making some pretty strong alliances right off the bat. It seemed as though the cast may be worth watching. But unfortunately that turned pretty quickly when they elected to vote out the "token" African American player DaVonne in the second eviction, leaving the first for the skater dude of course! Now they are left with the very first Trans-Gendered player of whom appears to be skating her way through to at least jury due to the Head of Household basically afraid to even nominate, let alone consider back dooring this individual because they don't want to be seen as 'that person'.. whatever.. it's a game.. what happened to everyone being equal here? I would think that is exactly what the Trans-Gender community would want and expect.. to be considered equal.. Similarly to the outspoken one-DaVonne, who was only standing up for the house when she placed the target smack on her back for doing so. Even though she was supposedly "liked" in the house, in my opinion there is still a serious issue with race in this house. To that point, I suggest next season they place a 'token' white person in the house and have the many other racial types that make up the great US of A.. At least that way we can rule out the race card once and for all.
Next I feel this cast is too young. With Shelli being the oldest at 33, my feelings are with 16 house guests they could have quite easily had 8 in their thirties and 8 in their twenties, if they are stuck on making the cast so young.. I feel there is no true power shift happening on a week to week basis simply because they have all bonded and are now utilizing this so-called fan-favorite Battle of the Block where the two HOH of the week place 4 people on the block and compete to knock their HOH off by winning BOB. We have now witnessed 3 of them and all of them were thrown on purpose and each time, the remaining HOH would use Audrey (the Trans-Gendered person) as the person they plan to back door only to not even place her on the block at all. Twice the BOB was thrown in anticipation of the HOH going to have an easy week and back door Audrey only to have the HOH power go straight to their head and have them decide to go after someone they personally don't want to see in the game. In both of these instances they got their wish.
Each year CBS/BBUSA seems to think they are leading edge with all their new features and bringing back the ones everyone just loved.. so far the twin twist is the only real thing worth watching but even that has been spoiled by the fact that half the house not only knows about the twin twist but is now taking them in as part of their alliance.. that in itself is half-baked.. the idea is to be the last person in the house and each week you want to vote someone out. You don't want to wait 5 evictions so that you can bring in a sure-thing power couple that would for sure knock your chance from winning 1 or 2 place to 3rd at the very best.. so why do it? These HG are not that smart. The ones that are like Jason, who is a real gamer and has watched every season and has been a feeder for years, as well as Steve, but Steve is very awkward socially and is most certainly due to go out this week if not next.
I have watched each and every year.. for 17 seasons, have paid for the feeds and have watched all three seasons of Big Brother Canada (their feeds are free) and I must say, even though the casting director is the same person for both series, it seems there is either an obvious cultural difference between Canada and the USA to the point where it was truly that difficult to find more than the one token AA and Asian player to making the season worth watching.
In a nutshell I'm not overly impressed from what I have seen this year.. and of course the CBS edit of the show that airs each week (3 times a week) is the same always.. Julie Chen might as well be a puppet as her lines each week are the same, over and over... again, unlike Canada's Arisa Cox who seems to have a real connection to the show and the HG without making it seem so 'plastic'. Yes, I am Canadian and sure, call me biased if you want.. but I would much rather look at myself as a true Big Brother fan and wish that so many of these "little issues" were fixed so that the big issue--the end product, would be so much better.
I will continue to watch and I will most likely report on it again.. I just had to get this off my chest and feel much better just saying what I have now said.. Do I have a fav? Yes, it was DaVonne but now that she is gone, Jason would be my next choice... and then James.. even though his days are probably numbered.. there is something about a Korean born-Texas raised with the South Carolina accented person being fun to watch.
